Luke and Samuel Seaman on September's new electronic music

Me and my journalist/ DJ brother Samuel have debated and denounced new music seemingly constantly since we bought our first trio of albums in our local HMV (Labyrinth’s Electronic Earth, Rizzle Kicks’ Stereo Typical and Ed Sheeran’s +) about 12 years ago.

With a tidal wave of new music leering over me as September approached, I thought it was about time I enlisted his help and finally put one of those conversations to use.

We dissected about as many of British dance music’s biggest new releases as we could, touching on: In Waves by Jamie xx; Cascade by Floating Points; Fred Again’s ten days; Sad Girl by TSHA and Tim Reaper and Kloke’s collaboration for Hyperdub, In Full Effect.

We don’t always agree, and this episode is a real mixed bag. I’d love to hear what you thought of these records in the comments.

I mention two very good bits of journalism in the episode: Fergal Kinney’s take on Fred Again for the New Statesman, which you can read here, and Shawn Reynaldo’s interview with Tim Reaper for First Floor, which you can read here.

Samuel also does great work writing about Norwich City Football Club for the Eastern Daily Press, Norwich Evening News and the Pink Un, and made a fantastic guestmix for CrateEater back in August which you’ll definitely love. He’s a man of many talents.

Enjoy!
